Things are moving along very quickly!

I have just returned from a month long trip to America. While I was there, the whole Green Card process really started happening.

I found out that my number has become current for March. This means my Consulate interview in Sydney has been scheduled for sometime in March. As soon as I found out I was current, I waited a couple of days and then emailed the KCC to ask for the date of the interview so I could book flights and accommodation. They replied - March 11!

Within a few hours, flights and accommodation were booked and I also contacted Dr Poppenbeek’s office here in Melbourne to schedule the final stage of my ‘document collection’ - the medical examination. This cannot be booked until you find out when the interview actually is as it really has to be as close to the date of the interview as possible to remain valid. So - that has all been booked as well!

My first mail delivery since I arrived home late last night saw me greeted with the formal ‘2nd Notification Letter’ (NL) from the KCC! So now, the process really is all systems go.

What was in the Notification Letter?

1. The letter that will need to be shown to gain entrance to the Consulate. This also states the fees - $US755.

2. A sheet with my name and case number on it (if other people were on my application, their names would be here as well)

3. Instructions for the interview that are issues by the Consulate in Sydney. These instructions vary around the world. Basically it is the document checklist, photo instructions, instructions for obtaining a police certificate and instructions for the medical with the details of the doctors in each state that are authorised to conduct the medical examination

4. A copy of the form DS-2053 that is used by the doctor to mark details of the medical examination

The post mark on the NL was the 22nd of January 2008.

So now, all I have to do is -
  1.  Get some more recent US sized passport photos
  2.  Complete the medical - this includes the examination, blood test and x-ray for Tuberculosis
  3.  Get a bank statement from my bank with the final balance of my savings. I am not using an Affidavit of Support (I-134) and do not have a job offer so I am attempting to get approved on assets alone.
